Tony “Harro” Harrington has been capturing breathtaking images at the extremes
of snow and surf around the globe for 40 inspirational years.

An adventurer, photographer, filmer, big mountain skier, surfer and experience-seeker Harro travels across continents, rides mountains and plunges into oceans in a quest to push his craft and to create images that inspire.

You’ll find him carving descents on the massive peaks of Alaska or searching out 50-foot waves in remote corners of the world’s oceans. There are few photographers who have pushed the limits of this realm as Harro has in surf or snow; he stands alone as a rare individual who solidly masters both worlds.

These are images born of passion, commitment, overcoming fear and facing the challenge of nature and the elements head on.

For decades Harro’s photography was almost exclusively found in the pages of ski, surf, adventure and travel magazines and advertising, however has taken a more creative and artistic turn that now also sees his work gracing the walls of beautiful homes, hotels and offices and in his gallery in the alpine village at Mt Buller ski resort in Australia.

“Sharing my work through the gallery and creating custom artworks for people is another exciting chapter in my winding journey as a photographer,” he explains. “Making art that is going to be part of someone’s home and that connects them to a special place or time is a such a privilege.”

Raised on the Central Coast of NSW in Australia Harro developed a love for surfing at Wamberal and continued to surf and compete in the sport through to early adulthood. He tossed in a job as an electrician not long afterwards to explore life in the snowfields for a season.

That opportunity transformed into a lifelong connection to the oceans and mountains and has seen him chase countless winters searching out big waves and powder days across Australia to Hawaii, North America, Europe and up to Alaska and Greenland where he immersed himself in the big mountain and extreme free riding scene and found a special ‘tribe’ of mountain people that are now family.

"Predictably Nomadic" is a perfect way to describe the life and creative journey Harro has created – following a cycle aligned to the seasons, the flow of the ocean and the rhythm of seasons in the mountains.

Always on quest for adventure and mischief, always documenting the ride and capturing the energy, spirit and light through his unique vision.

His latest endeavour is a herculean book titled “Defining Moments” which captures the vast sweep of his work and reflections from across his life and career. Harrington explores moments that have been pivotal or profound for him personally and also honours the subjects of his photographs weaving in their recollection of the moment in his frame.

“Defining Moments” is scheduled for publication in 2024.  A superbly presented coffee table book, the tome is boxed and fabric bound and will provide hours of pleasure throughout its glorious 1000 pages. The perfect gift for anyone with a love for the mountains, the ocean, a taste for adventure and an appreciation for mesmerising photography.

With over 150 magazine covers and a collection of numerous global awards for his work these accolades are testament to the extraordinary work Harrington creates.

Not content to only work behind the lens Harro creates and produces major adventure projects that have featured on screens large and small collaborating with Red Bull, Teton Gravity Research, Discovery Channel, NBC, Channel 10, ONE HD, FUEL TV and networks across Japan and Asia.
